Four times a year Canadians can fish for free and do not have to buy a fishing license.
This family day weekend From Feb 17-19 people can fish without a license in Ontario.
Other free fishing days this year will be on Mothers Day, Fathers Day and during family fishing week from June 29-July 7.
Regular rules still need to be followed, such as following the limits for fish size and also how many fish you can catch.
Our province has over 120 species of native fish and 17 naturalized species offering the highest fish diversity in Canada.
Some tips from Ontario.ca about ice safety include:
Clear blue ice is the strongest and snowmobiles need at least 8 inches of clear blue ice to ride.
You need double thickness if ice is white or opaque.
Also always check ice conditions with your local ice hut operators or anglers.
