Believed to be a carrier pigeon, the injured bird landed on the deck of David and Shelley Kingsbury’s cottage on Sunday evening.
“The pigeon flew onto our deck. I caught (him) and noticed he had a wound (under his right wing). I’m not sure if it’s gunshot or he was attacked, I brought him into the washroom and washed the dirt and grass off his right wing. It was not bleeding at that point. I cleaned it all up and then fed him in my garage and we made a little bed for him.”
“I opened the door so that he could leave anytime. But he comes back every day.”

Kingsbury said that his wife Shelley learned through online contacts that the pigeon, who has a numbered band on its leg, is most likely a carrier pigeon.
“My wife had gotten a hold of someone who said if you get the numbers, send those numbers to us, then we can identify where this pigeon came from.”
Kingsbury went on to say that Tuesday is the third day the pigeon has returned.
“He knows exactly where the food is….right now he came outside and he can still fly. He’s sitting on top of my small cottage just looking at me right now.”
Kingsbury later told Moose FM that on Tuesday afternoon he was able to get the numbers from the pigeons band when he came in to eat. He also gave him a bath.

While the pigeon can still fly, since he is wounded, Kingsbury pointed out that he most likely can’t make the journey back to wherever his home is.
When asked if the pigeon had been named, Kingsbury replied that his grandson had named him after another bird. Until his real identity is discovered, the houseguest is currently going by “Woody”.
