The community comes out for MooseFM Hospital Auxiliary Radiothon

People from all corners of the community came out on Friday to support our local hospital.

Starting at 8 a.m., MooseFM was live on location at Price Ford in downtown Bancroft, along with Hospital Auxiliary volunteers who were also at the ready to take calls at the radio station on Highway 28 east.

Out on the street Moose Fm caught up with a steady stream of people supporting the Auxiliary, from trucks and cars handing bills out their window, to those visiting the booth of volunteers and the MooseFM team.

“I’m just here to give 5 dollars today.. We all need to give. We all need to support. I do every year.” said one man.

“We’ve been ‘customers’ at the hospital for as long as I can remember. And it’s always great to give back.” said another.

We also got a chance to speak with Auxiliary members Kate, Gabby and Marcella about the importance of supporting this type of fundraising.

“Most hospitals have to raise the majority of the money for their equipment. They don’t have enough money in their budgets. So we know that and we want our hospital to be the best it can be. And we already know we have a spectacular emergency department thanks to the generous people here”

Not just locals were there but also some special out-of-towners including Quinte Helath president and CEO Stacy Daub.

“As far down as Picton, I hear stories about people who have been using the Bancroft CT scanner. It’s incredible, this community is leading in terms of supporting their hospital.”

Almost $28,000 was raised over the course of the day. This year the funds will go to urgent hospital needs, such as a blood fridge and stretcher.

Since 2008 the MooseFM Radiothon has been helping the North Hastings District Hospital Auxiliary raise money for local healthcare, including things like pediatric devices, heart care equipment and the recently acquired CT scanner.

Those who still wish to donate to the auxiliary can do so by visiting Canada Helps and searching “North Hastings Hospital Auxiliary”.
