Officers conducted 72 Festive RIDE programs across the Bancroft area during the holiday season, stopping vehicles to make sure that drivers were not impaired by alcohol or drugs.
A total of six people were charged with impaired driving.
Bancroft OPP continue to perform RIDE checks, conducting seven over the past weekend.
According to OPP, some things to remember before you get in front of the wheel of a motor vehicle include:
50-80 mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood is in the warn range and will give you a three, seven or 30-day suspension. Although there are no criminal charges, there is an administration fee when you renew your licence at the MTO.
80 mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood is considered impaired in Canada and comes with a criminal charge and court date, seven-day car impoundment, and 90-day license suspension.
Novice drivers (G1 and G2), young drivers (age 21 and under), and commercial motor vehicle drivers can have no alcohol in their body.
OPP emphasize that RIDE programs don’t stop after the holidays. They can happen anywhere and anytime.
If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 9-1-1.
