Bancroft Mayor Paul Jenkins says he’s been thinking a lot about what tariffs could mean for our area.
While he says he doesn’t know at this point exactly what the Town of Bancroft imports from the U.S., he feels there will be impacts from any kind of trade war.
“It will definitely have an impact on our residents as far as prices rising… we’re going to have to be very cognizant of this through our budget process to do everything we can to keep our budget increases to a minimum. We might even have to end up forgoing some things that were already on our books. I don’t know, that will be a decision of council, but I think we have to look at everything.”
Jenkins also noted that we would likely see the effects of tariffs at places such as local hardware and grocery stores.
