A boost to senior living in Gilmour

A new initiative is aiming to keep seniors active and engaged in Gilmour and the surrounding area.

The Seniors Active Living Centre was opened last month at the Tudor and Cashel Community Centre.

At their weekly Strength and Fun exercise program on January 28, deputy mayor Bob Bridger, coun. Elain Holloway and clerk Nancy Carol, along with MPP (at the time) Ric Bresee,  gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the centre.

The new centre will offer a variety of activities, including fitness classes, educational workshops, and social events, serving as a resource for area seniors.

Mayor Dave Hederson says the township is ‘delighted’ to bring the initiative to the community.”

“Our goal is to support seniors in leading active and fulfilling lives by providing a wide range of activities that cater to their interests and needs.”

This Seniors Active Living Centre is part of Ontario’s commitment to support seniors’ health and well-being by providing opportunities for physical activity and social engagement.

In December the province announced, “the largest single-year expansion for Seniors Active Living Centres in its history”, saying they were increasing funding by $17 million to expand services and activities and adding up to 100 new Seniors Active Living Centre programs over the next year.
