An OPP officer in Tweed didn’t need a cruiser to stop an alleged impaired driver last week.
OPP say the officer was on foot along Colborne Street just before 9:30 a.m. last Wednesday, when a vehicle going at high speeds through a 50km/h zone caught her attention.
Police say the officer stepped out to signal the driver to stop, and the vehicle complied.
A roadside screening device was used, and the driver was arrested and taken for further testing. Police say they later seized suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA and open alcohol from the vehicle.
One person faces several charges including impaired driving, three counts of drug possession and having open liquor in a vehicle. He’s also charged with driving-related permit offences.
The accused was released and will appear in court in May .
His licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for a week.
