The Baptiste Lake Dam t High Falls is not leaking, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF).
The ministry confirmed to Moose FM that the dam, which underwent resurfacing repairs in late 2024, is functioning as expected.
Images circulating on social media show water flowing over the weir and deflecting off the concrete surface — a normal and expected part of the dam’s operation, said Mike Fenn, media spokesperson for the ministry.
Repairs to the dam were completed in November, 2024 and included concrete rehabilitation to address material loss caused by deterioration along the spillway and sluiceways.
According to the MNRF, the upgrades are expected to extend the dam’s serviceable life by 40 to 60 years and will support long-term water level management, ecological health, stakeholder needs and recreational use in accordance with the site’s operations plan.
The ministry says it regularly inspects and monitors the condition of all ministry-owned dams.
