NHHS student receives 2025 MP Youth Leadership Award

Lane Humen from North Hastings High School has been named the senior recipient of the 2025 MP Youth Leadership Award.

Humen, a Grade 11 student, was selected in the Grade 10–12 category of the annual award, which is presented by Hastings–Lennox and Addington MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman.

The award recognizes young leaders across the riding who demonstrate outstanding commitment to service, leadership and academic excellence.

“Lane’s passion for helping others is truly remarkable,” Kramp-Neuman said in a statement on social media, noting Humen’s exceptional contributions to student life, the arts and her community.

“She brings energy, creativity and compassion to everything she does.”

Humen is Deputy Prime Minister of the North Hastings High School student council and a member of the school’s Student Voice Committee.

She performs in the North Hastings Community Band and volunteers with the Village Playhouse in Bancroft, where she has been active since 2022.

Joining Humen as this year’s junior category recipient (Grades 7–9) is Brody Bellis, a Grade 7 student at Tyendinaga Public School.

Bellis was praised for his selflessness, reliability, and leadership within his school community.

“Brody and Lane have both demonstrated outstanding leadership through their actions, discipline, focus & kindness, inspiring those around them to get involved and make an impact.” Kramp-Neuman said.

Both students will travel to Ottawa later this year to be formally recognized for their achievements.

“Keep aiming high, Lane and Brody,” added Kramp-Neuman.

“You are just getting started, and the world is lucky to have you shaping it.”
