Under clear skies and with cheers echoing from the shoreline, Paudash Lake celebrated Canada Day with its annual Boat Parade on Tuesday.
The event saw a fantastic turnout, with decorated boats and enthusiastic spectators waving flags and donning red and white.

The long-standing tradition, supported by the Paudash Lake Conservation Association (PLCA), featured a festive procession of watercraft. Parade marshals, including operators on PWCs and the Flagler family aboard their signature decked-out Mastercraft, helped organize the flotilla, which spanned both Upper and Lower Paudash.
Organizers credited Lower Paudash with the larger turnout this year.
“We had amazing participation on the water and incredible spirit on the shore,” said organizer Tracy Pastic “It was great to see the whole lake come alive with patriotism.”

The post-parade celebration continued on the beach near the new AM/PM Outdoor Gourmet Snack Shack, located on Hwy 28 across from Landing Point Marina. .
The boat parade tradition began in the early 2000s, initiated by Don Arscott, a Durham police officer and longtime Paudash resident. After returning from a peacekeeping mission in Bosnia, Arscott was inspired to celebrate Canada Day by showcasing Canadian pride on the water.
With encouragement from his late wife, Gail, the idea for the boat parade was born.
“Don and his family still participate every year,” organizers noted. “We’re proud to honour Gail’s legacy and continue this beautiful celebration of freedom and community.”

Next up for the PLCA is the Don Thomas Memorial Rock Bass Derby, happening Saturday, July 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., starting at the Paudash Lake Marina.
