Halloween Costume Contest – Think Turtle

October 18, 2023 @ 8:00 am - November 2, 2023 @ 8:00 am EDT

Free

As a bit of fun, Think Turtle Conservation Initiative is hosting another “Halloween Costume Contest.” If you celebrate Halloween in turtle style, consider entering our online Halloween Contest.

Do-It-Yourself (DIY) costumes are the coolest, and there will be prizes awarded for the judge’s favorite “adult” (18 years and older) turtle-themed costume entry and “youth” (17 years and under) costume entry. Costumes can be a combination of do-it-yourself and pre-assembled elements, but please do not costumes straight out of the package purchased from a retailer.

Are you looking for ideas? There are eight turtle species native to Ontario, and they all vary in color, shape, and markings. Recreate your favorite turtle species, invent a new one, or go Ninja Turtle (tutu Ninja Turtles are a fresh take on a steadfast favorite). Foil roasting pans painted up make great turtle shells. There are plenty of ideas online to inspire, so let your imagination soar and get crafting!

THE CONTEST RULES
1 – Contest Eligibility: The contest is open to adults and youth of all ages residing in Ontario. There is no entry fee or purchase required. One contest entry per person.

2 – How to Enter: Please send a photo(s) of the turtle costume worn by you or the person you are submitting the contest entry for to Think Turtle Conservation Initiative via Facebook messenger or e-mail at [email protected]. Ensure you include your name, location, phone number, and title for the contest submission. Note: Contest entrants under 18 will require a parent or guardian to submit their costume entry on their behalf. Contact information sent to Think Turtle by the contest participants will not be made public.

3 – Contest Entry Deadline: Photo(s) must be received by Think Turtle by Thursday, November 2, 11:59 PM. Photos obtained by the deadline will be eligible for the judge’s consideration when selecting their favorite costumes. Photos sent will be featured in a special tribute post shared via the Think Turtle Conservation Initiative Facebook group.

4 – Judging: A panel of three judges will decide on the “two” costume contest winners. The judges selected to participate on the judges’ panel are not directly affiliated with Think Turtle Conservation Initiative. They each share a concern for the well-being of turtles and embrace the contest for the spirit of fun intended. Note: In the event of no adult contest entries, two youth winners will be selected. If no youth contest entries two winners will be chosen from the adult category.

5 – Prizes: Two prize winners will be selected for their favorite costume. Each prize winner will be issued a $25 gift certificate for the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC) shop, lots of great items to choose from and you will have bragging rights for being selected as a Turtle Costume Champ. Each prize winner chosen must answer an age-appropriate skill testing question. Don’t sweat this even for a second, easey peasey, promise. Each gift certificate will be mailed to you as arranged by Think Turtle Conservation Initiative. Note: After the contest, each contest participant will receive a “Watch 4 Turtles” bumper sticker or car magnet.

6 – Contest Results: The selected prize winners for the costume contest will be posted on Facebook on Saturday, November 4.
