“See Tracks? Think Train!”

This is Public Rail Safety Week, (April 28th to May 4th), and Canadian railways are reminding motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians about the importance of staying safe around railway property, and in particular at railway crossings. Of particular importance is the number of grade crossing collisions involving commercial vehicles. Driver awareness and caution is critical to preventing incidents. Over half of all motor vehicle-train collisions that occurred in 2013, happened at crossings with fully armed lights and gates. The dangers of distraction also applies to those who are caught off guard, while walking along tracks, when they fail to notice a train approaching or fail to hear train whistles because of headphones they are wearing. To learn more about being safe near railway property, follow Canadian Pacific on Facebook and Twitter or visit www.HYPERLINK “http://cpr.ca”cpr.ca.
