Local home sales start picking up

The Bancroft and Area Association of Realtors’ President says home sales are starting to show signs of improvement.

This comes as the association reports 37 homes in the area were sold in March, dropping over 27 per cent year-over-year. President Dianne Fitzpatrick says because of how strong the market was last March, this year’s decline is unflattering. But Fitzpatrick also says last month’s home sales were still the second strongest the area has seen in March in the past 10 years.

The average price for a home was just shy of $299,000 in March, up more-than-14 per cent year-over-year. The association says homes spent an average of 3.6 months on the market at the end of the month, which is similar to last March. But, this is below the average of nearly 15 months for this time of year.
