New Horizons funding gives Seniors Club a positive sign

It’s, literally, a good sign for the Shamrock Seniors Club.

The club has a new electronic sign outside the Dungannon Centre where it hosts activities.

It was paid for through a $11,000 grant the club received from the federal New Horizons for Seniors Program.

The funding was celebrated at a ceremony at the Bancroft North Hastings Heritage Museum on Friday, July 21.

The club’s Mike Dearborn says the sign is an effective way for the club to advertise its activities.

“I’m not on Facebook and I know a lot of seniors aren’t,” he says. “So, when people can drive by and see a sign that says, ‘ok this is what’s going on on Monday’ or ‘this is what’s going on on Tuesday’ it’s going to be really helpful.”

A new round of New Horizons funding is coming. Applications are being accepted starting August 1.
