‘Let’s do the time warp again’: Rocky Horror hits Village Playhouse stage

The Rocky Horror Show opened at the Village Playhouse in Bancroft last night.

Science fiction meets horror meets romance in this cult classic.

The show incorporates audience participation, which had theatre-goers laughing throughout.

Among last night’s attendees were Alex Brownell and Abby Eastman, who were visiting home in Bancroft from school and decided they wanted to get tickets last-minute. Brownell said she was surprised they were able to get tickets with how fast the show got booked up.

They had both seen the film before, but this was their first time seeing Rocky Horror live.

“It couldn’t have been any better. Everybody was amazing,” Brownell said.

“Tweed and Co. always puts on an amazing show, everything they do is such high quality. It’s always a treat to go watch,” added Eastman.

The show boasts some elaborate costumes, innovative set design and powerhouse vocals.

Among the musical talent on stage was Saphire Demitro, portraying the usherette and Magenta. Demitro said she’s played Janet in a different production of Rocky Horror before, but felt Magenta would be a good role for her.

“It’s such a different thing. I always thought I’d play Magenta. She’s crazy and clairvoyant and just so over the top and everywhere, but so quiet. I think I say seven things in the entire show,” she said.

“I have like no lines but I’m always there, and it was just so much fun to get to play powerfully crazy.”

Demitro said the team was among the most cohesive she’s worked with.

“I wanted to work with Tweed for a while, so I’m super stoked to be here.”

Rocky Horror is largely sold out. Some seats remain for Sunday’s 7 p.m. show.

Audience participation props are for sale in the lobby before the show starts.

The show deals with mature themes and is recommended for ages 14 plus.
