Give some thanks to safe driving this holiday weekend

With the Thanksgiving long weekend on the way, motorists are asked to be safe on the road.

OPP are joining other police services in Canada for Operation Impact, an initiative aiming to create safer streets and highways by focusing on high-risk driving behaviours that contribute to collisions.

That includes the usual suspects including impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving and proper use of seatbelts and child seats.

Police say Thanksgiving weekends have the second highest number of fatalities among all long weekends in Ontario, with 13 deaths reported last year due to collisions.

Officers will patrol across the province to enforce road safety.

Motorists are asked to stay sober, pay attention, slow down and wear a seatbelt, helmet and lifejacket.
