Winter coats on order for kids, toy drive up next

More than 170 winter coats have been ordered for youth in north Hastings.

Sherry Torrens, Board Chair with Bancroft and Area Kids in Need, told MyBancroftNow with the order process all wrapped up, efforts move towards the annual toy drive.

Families will have an opportunity to register for that when they pick up their coats later this month and in November.

Torrens said the toy drive will start with local businesses around the beginning of November and run it into December.

Eight to 10 businesses around town collect toys for Bancroft and Area Kids in Need.

Kids in Need has helped the region since 1989. Last year about $22,000 was raised to cover snowsuits and toys and some footwear and the organization is hoping to match or better that.

Torrens adds that the organization is always seeking donations to keep programs going.

In addition to Bancroft, they support the townships of Hastings Highlands, Carlow-Mayo, Wollaston and Limerick.
