Hospital auxiliary celebrates 40th anniversary

The North Hastings District Hospital Auxiliary is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Quinte Health said as the auxiliary has grown over the years, it has continued to support the area’s growing and aging population.

Lina Rinaldi, Quinte Health’s vice president and chief nursing executive, said when the auxiliary was formed one in 10 Canadians was over 65.

Now, that number has grown to around one in five.

Quinte Health said the auxiliary has raised around $2 million for local healthcare over the course of its four decades.

Part of their fundraising efforts is the annual radiothon, in which Moose FM takes part.

This year’s radiothon raised $36,000, funds which were presented to the hospital as part of a $100,000 donation at the auxiliary’s recent anniversary dinner.

Quinte Health said the donation will support the purchase of essential equipment like two new ventilators.
