Shelter-in-place lifted, armed individual in custody

Central Hastings OPP have a person in custody after a report overnight of an active incident involving an armed individual.

OPP instituted a shelter-in-place advisory for the area around Jamieson St. East and Louisa St. in Tweed early Monday morning.

Police said the incident was contained and the individual surrounded within one building.

As part of the initial response, residents in the immediate area were urged to follow shelter-in-place precautions that began at 12:30 a.m.

An update from OPP at 2:10 a.m. said the shelter-in-place was lifted.

Police said no other people are being sought.

OPP said they recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter-in-place can cause and appreciate public patience, as officers worked to investigate and resolve the situation.

Central Hastings OPP thanked the community for their cooperation and understanding. A police presence could remain in the area as the on-site investigation continues.

Anyone with information or who may have seen anything suspicious, is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
