MPP announces millions of dollars in infrastructure funding

Millions of dollars in provincial funding was announced in Bancroft Wednesday by Ric Bresee, MPP for Hastings-Lennox and Addington

The Ontario government will invest up to $2.26 million to replace water infrastructure in Bancroft through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.

A further $2.98 million will be provided through connecting link funding for the rehabilitation of Mill Street, or highway 62 south.

The water infrastructure funding will rehabilitate the water level control dam on the York River.

Mayor Paul Jenkins said the dam is a key piece of infrastructure for flood management that has fallen into disrepair.

Infrastructure and Capital Projects Manager Jake Krupa, who worked on the connecting link grant application, said that funding will go towards repairs on Mill Street extending from Bridge Street to Bay Lake Road.

He said the funding will support a full rehabilitation, including new asphalt, stabilizing the slope along the river, and updated drainage infrastructure.

Krupa said they won’t be adding traffic lights to the intersection at Bridge and Mill streets, but he does hope to expand the turn lanes to allow for more vehicle traffic.
