AGB’s 44!! fundraiser raises over $6,000 for the gallery

The Art Gallery of Bancroft held their 44!! fundraiser this past weekend, and board of directors chair Molly Moldovan said they raised a total of $6,430.

The funds came from the sale of the 44 tickets for the mystery art grab and the sale of 56 online auction items.

The party on Saturday kicked off with some song and dance by emcee Roy Mitchell and backup dancers, before moving into the art grab.

Ticketholders had their tickets pulled at random to choose one of 44 art pieces off the wall.

Nancy White had two tickets, and said she was lucky enough to get two of the pieces she had her eye on.

She said she chose a piece by Diana Gurley featuring a boardwalk because it reminded her of when she and her husband used to live in Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island, and would walk the long boardwalk every day.

She said she had two tickets for last year’s 43!! fundraiser and is likely to participate if the gallery holds another event next year.

“It’s a wonderful way to support the gallery,” she said, adding she feels lucky the town has arts and culture organizations like it.

The mystery art grab and online auction also featured works from artists who have previously had their work on display in the gallery, including Ken Fraser, Elizabeth Broere Jackson and Alex Jack.

This year’s event took its name from and was in celebration of the gallery’s 44 years of operation.
