Hastings County approves 2026 budget

Hastings County Council has approved this year’s budget.

The budget comes in at just under $230 million, resulting in a 5.3 per cent increase to the tax levy compared to last year’s budget.

The county said the budget includes more than $27 million in capital projects.

CAO Connor Dorey said a large portion of this year’s capital projects are related to the county’s housing portfolio, which includes 1,471 units.

It also includes continued work on a 32-unit housing development in Quinte West, scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

The county plans to withdraw $4.7 million from their reserves this year and contribute almost $2 million. They project to finish the year with a total reserve balance of $8.8 million.
