Environment Canada: Significant freezing rain in Bancroft and area

Power outages have been reported Wednesday morning and a freezing rain warning remains in effect for Bancroft, Hastings Highlands and Denbigh.

Environment Canada says residents can expect significant freezing rain up until this evening, according to their latest update at 9:25 a.m.

The forecast includes ice accretion or build up of 10 to 20 mm.

Large parts of the region are under this weather warning.

Hydro One spokesperson Bianca Pizzo tells MyBancroftNow that severe thunderstorms resulted in power outages throughout eastern Ontario.

Hundreds of customers have been impacted in the Bancroft area.

Outage maps on the Hydro One website are updated every 10 minutes.

Pizzo advises when storms are forecast for prolonged periods to practice safety measures, including restocking emergency kits, ensuring you have enough water, blankets and food, and keeping devices fully charged.

Hydro One advises staying 10 metres back from a fallen hydro line and to report it. You should also report flooding in the area, or water about to reach an outlet in your home, so power can be disconnected.
