Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee announced $25 million in funding for the municipality of Hastings Highlands today.
The money will fund the reconstruction of Highway 62 North from Maynooth to the Renfrew County border, a distance of 28.8 kilometres.
Hastings Highlands Mayor Tony Fitzgerald said the project is larger than anything the municipality has taken on before, and the announcement has been two years in the making.
The highway was mostly built in the 1960s and 1970s, and Fitzgerald said the work is needed to maintain safety and the highway’s infrastructure, including bridges, culverts and shoulders.
Bresee noted that the highway is vital for things like emergency services and tourism access.
Fitzerald said council has already put out a tender for design proposals, with work expected to begin in 2027.
