Opening reception and workshop coming up at AGB

The Art Gallery of Bancroft has a new exhibit this month and an opening reception and workshop coming up.

In her exhibition, titled Through a Magical Lens, Yulia Shtern uses upcycled materials to create sculptures of animals.

In her artist statement, Shtern says the works presented are from two separate series of work: Magical Zoo and Endangered/Extinct/Enslaved.

Shtern said the animals she depicts are often species in crisis, whether it be by facing extinction or loss of their natural habitat.

The pieces are meant to evoke curiosity and wonder, and invite viewers to contemplate on what and how humans consume.

The opening reception for Through a Magical Lens will be held on April 11.

The following day, Shtern is hosting a workshop on creating sculptures using upcycled materials.

More information is available on the AGB website.
