Second annual Walk a Mile event happening later this month

Maggie’s Resource Centre is getting ready to hold their second annual Walk a Mile in their Shoes event on May 26 at Millennium Park.

Executive director Melissa St Pierre said Walk a Mile raises awareness about gender-based violence and invites male allies to literally walk a mile in women’s shoes.

St-Pierre said men are not required to walk in heels, but they will be available to borrow for anyone who wants to participate.

“We just want to kind of spread the word, bringing allies together and letting people know that Maggie’s is here to help and what we do in the community,” she said.

Maggie’s board chair Kathy Taunton said Walk a Mile is also a fundraiser for resource centre clients.

Registration is open on Race Roster, and the $40 fee includes a t-shirt and goodie bag items.

St-Pierre said people can also stop by on the day of the event to show support, ask questions and learn more.
