Bancroft council deciding on the future of soon to be former library building

With construction on the new library building well underway, Town of Bancroft council discussed what should be done with the current library building located at 14 Flint Avenue.

A staff report presented at Tuesday’s meeting suggested declaring the property surplus would be premature. The building is occupied by the library until the new North Hastings Inspiration Place is completed.

The report said that the town would need to get an appraisal of fair market value before selling the current library building.

Town General Manager Andra Kauffeldt said council approved issuing two requests for proposal: one for a market value assessment, and one for potential real estate services, if the building does end up being sold.

The two RFPs ensure the market value assessment remains separate from the real estate transaction.

Kauffeldt said the requests for proposals would allow the town to use the successful applicants’ services for other town properties over the next few years, if need be.

She added the town can start the process of obtaining appraisal and real estate services now to speed up the future listing and sale process.
