Update – Some Marmora and area residents remain without power but Hydro One expect most power outages to be fixed later today, July 3.
“Crews continue to restore power as safely and quickly as possible to outages caused by several rounds of thunderstorms yesterday. Contractors and other utility workers are helping with restoration where possible,” said a statement on the Hydro One website.
“Damage is severe in many areas so the estimated time of restoration may change when crews are onsite and start repairs based on the extent of the damage. The risk of thunderstorms and extreme heat continues into tomorrow. For information on cooling centres in your community call 2-1-1,” it added.

Some residents in Marmora and the surrounding area will have to beat the heat without air conditioning for the foreseeable future.
Yesterday’s storms knocked out hydro for many residents, and Marmora and Lake Deputy Fire Chief Robert Murphy said it will take some time for hydro to be restored.
“There are some trees over the lines in a few areas where it will take a few days to get power back to people, and it has knocked out all cell service in the area pretty well.”
Murphy added there was no other significant damage in the area.
Bancroft was spared by yesterday’s wild weather with no reports of damage from the town.
“We’re responding as safely and quickly as possible to outages caused by thunderstorms across the province,” said a statement on the Hydro One website. “The estimated time of restoration may change when crews are onsite and start repairs based on additional damage, repairs or work required,” it added.
After a storm, Hydro One prioritizes restoration to bring power back to the greatest number of customers in the shortest time. Crews need to repair and rebuild main lines along with other key pieces of critical electricity infrastructure in your community before repairs can be made to power lines that serve smaller numbers of customers.
“Should outages occur, it’s critical that customers and the public stay safe by remaining at least 10 metres back from any fallen powerlines and report it to 911 and to Hydro One. If you’re using a generator, ensure it is outside and away from any windows or ventilation,” added the statement.”
