Donaldson appointed as new councillor in Marmora and Lake

Bernie Donaldson has regained a seat on Marmora and Lake council.

The former councillor took her oath at yesterday’s regular council meeting.

“I, Bernie Donaldson, having been elected or appointed to the office of councillor in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake, do solemnly promise and declare that I will truly, faithfully, and impartially exercise this office to the best of my knowledge and ability.”

Donaldson was elected to council in 2018, finishing with 720 votes. She lost her seat in 2022, finishing fifth in the race with 598 votes.

Fourth-place finisher Alex Angus was first offered the role vacated by Jane Lakatos, who resigned during a council meeting on June 2. He turned down the offer.

Donaldson was next in line.

“I would just like to, again, give Bernie congratulations,” said Mayor Jan O’Neill. “We know she served on the previous term of council and she comes with all the training and experience. We know it will be great to have her on board for the rest of this term.”

Donaldson will be at the council table until the next municipal election on Oct. 26.

No word yet if she plans to run.
