Generosity, ‘special kind of connection’ shined through at annual radiothon

Community members, cottagers and others from the area joined together to support North Hastings Hospital Fund Development through an annual event that raises funds for the local hospital.

North Hastings District Hospital Auxiliary Radiothon wrapped up its 18th edition last weekend with favourable weather in Bancroft for the volunteers who donate their time and locals and visitors who donated their money.

Volunteer Debbie Speck told MyBancroftNow organizers were pleased with the generosity and giving spirit.

The auxiliary has committed to a $300,000 pledge over three years to support the Care in the Cart Campaign and purchase equipment for the hospital.

“Michelle and Mike from MooseFM were wonderful ambassadors for the event,” Speck said. “Price Ford once again supported us with their downtown space and financial contribution. The beautiful weather was a bonus for the volunteers, auxiliary members, friends and family.”

Moose FM morning announcer Michelle Somerville said while it is always exciting for Vista Radio staffers to get out into the community, the north Hastings hospital auxiliary radiothon brings a special kind of connection.

“Having donations pour in, from not only locals, but visitors from across Ontario and beyond, shows how valued our small town hospital is to any that have needed it or may need it in the future.

“It is clear that our community understands that the support that we show our hospital today enables the great level of care that we may receive tomorrow.”

Despite some muggy conditions, Somerville said volunteers maintained a positive attitude, “helping us collect donations downtown from vehicles and also accepting phone calls at the Moose office.”

The radiothon has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years, and Speck said they are still accepting some donations and tallying up the totals for last weekend’s event.
