A nice selection of prizes for Riddle Me This welcome mural contest winner

Sylvia Mayner of Cardiff has won the Riddle Me This contest.

A PLACE for the ARTS and the Muse Gallery & Café sponsored the contest that asked participants to investigate the welcome mural in Bancroft.

The contest featured a set of riddles about imagery in Arne Roosman’s original painting and in recent community revitalization efforts.

Communications and Marketing Director at A PLACE for the ARTS, Gayle Crozmaz accepted answers until early October and the winner was announced at Cultural Days, a celebration of local arts, music and community.

“We had a great opportunity to encourage the public to look closer at the mural and the artists who helped paint it,” Crozmaz told MyBancroftNow.

A number of local artists donated to the grand prize, valued at $850, which included knitted hats and scarves, a gift card, artwork and a gourd drum.

Crozmaz, who has painted murals, said the contest helped bring attention to the original artwork from 2014-15 and the restorations, which took nine months to complete from the planning stage to completion of work from artists, ages five to 85.
