Poppy campaign funds will stay local, help area programs

Bancroft Legion has raised nearly $30,000 this year for local community programs and it is hoping to raise more with their poppy campaign now underway.

Stacy Talisma, President of Legion Branch 181 in Bancroft, says funds are staying local.

“This year about $29,000 has been donated to community and charitable causes, including youth programs, bursaries, cadets, veteran and service dogs. The money we raise helps us continue supporting others all year long.”

The Legion’s poppy campaign is currently underway with volunteers out in the community tagging and collecting donations.

Each year millions of Canadians wear a poppy in honour and remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Talisma said donations support veterans and their families.

The organization is also looking for volunteers and anyone who would like to take part is welcome to participate.

“We could certainly use more Legion members coming forward to help with tagging. Even a couple hours makes a difference.”
