Belleville resident facing charges after items stolen from vehicles

Following a series of vehicle thefts in Stirling, police have identified and charged a suspect using surveillance footage and tips received over the weekend.

“Community-provided surveillance footage and information were instrumental in advancing the investigation and identifying the individual responsible,” said investigators with the Hastings Detachment in a public statement released on Monday.

Central Hastings OPP received multiple reports on Saturday morning of thefts in the areas of West Front Street and Church Street in Stirling.

On Sunday, officers received another tip that led them to a home in Stirling. There, officers recovered property that was reportedly stolen, including a laptop computer.

A 37-year-old from Belleville is charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and trespassing at night.

Charges will be addressed at Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville in February.

Officers are working to return a number of the stolen items.

Investigators added that more thefts may have occurred within the same time period, but had not yet been reported to police.

Anyone that may have been a victim of theft or has information is asked to contact OPP.
