Officer took evasive action at Centre Hastings RIDE program

Centre Hastings OPP say one of their officers had to take action to avoid being struck after a vehicle went through a RIDE program without stopping.

Officers had the RIDE program setup on Highway 62 on Oct. 22 at 11 p.m. when a vehicle approached at a high rate of speed and failed to stop when directed to do so, instead continuing on through the checkpoint.

Police say an officer had to move to avoid getting hit.

An investigation led officers to a nearby residence and the 65-year-old driver from Centre Hastings.

In addition to impaired driving, charges include flight from peace officer and dangerous operation.

A 90-day driver’s licence suspension and seven-day license suspension have been instituted.
