The town of Bancroft was almost hit with a phishing scam.
CAO Hazel Lambe told Bancroft Council that staff and the town’s banking institutions managed to stop the scam from happening.
The OPP says phishing is an e-mail falsely claiming to be from an organization, like a bank or government agency, asking that you visit a website to update or provide personal or financial information and passwords.
Bancroft Mayor Bernice Jenkins says the incident is still under investigation, and more information will be released once it’s complete.
