MNRF asks for input on proposed project in Algonquin Park

The Ministry of Natural Resources is looking for public comment on a proposed red pine thinning project in Algonquin Park.

Algonquin Park says one of the primary focuses of the red pine plantation thinning project will be along Highway 60. Park Forester at Algonquin Park Joe Yaraskavitch says the project will include thinning about one third of red pine stems.

Yaraskavitch says this will help current red pines in Algonquin Park and the rest of the forest now and into the future.

He says there is no expected impact to traffic on Highway 60 or to visitors in the park. The project would start in late fall or early winter.

Anyone looking to submit a comment or that wants more information can contact Yaraskavitch by calling (613) 732-5550, or e-mailing [email protected].
