Wild Turkey hunting season has begun

Wild turkey hunting season began on April 25 and goes until May 31.

Ontario Fish and Wildlife is reminding everyone that hunters may only harvest bearded birds and only one per day.

The legal shooting time is a half hour before sunrise to 7 p.m.

Also, hunters may harvest two birds maximum per spring season (one per tag).

Anyone wishing to hunt wild turkeys must have an outdoors card, a small game licence, wild turkey tag and proof of firearm accreditation if hunting with a gun.

You cannot use bait to attract them.

According to Ontario Fish and Wildlife:  “It is illegal to hunt wild turkey within 400 metres of any place where bait has been deposited (unless the place has been free of bait for at least seven days). Bait means corn, wheat, oats, other grain, pulse, any other feed that may attract wild turkey or any imitation of such feed.”
