Fewer people in Bancroft owe money to the town because of their water and sewer bills.

Information released by the town shows 79 people owe money, compared to 90 people at this time last year. However, the amount of money owed to the town has gone up from $19,000 to $25,000.

At the start of the year, water and sewer rates went up 53 per cent to cover the cost of a $2-million deficit with the systems.

There are over a thousand metered water users in Bancroft, along with almost 900 sewer users.

CAO Hazel Lambe says those who owe money can get in touch with the town to set up payment options to settle their accounts.
