Bancroft Town Council Special Meeting

Bancroft Town Council held a special meeting on Wednesday morning. The agenda was light with just three items being addressed. First, council passed a by-law to brand Bridge Street East, in the Town of Bancroft as the “Theatre District.” Council was told that the BBIA and local merchants, along with the CFDC have arranged signage to be installed to direct and identify the area. The Theatre District had been defined as Bridge Street East from the south end of the bridge east to the Village Playhouse. The council voted unanimously in favour. There is to be no cost to the town for the signage.

Bancroft Council passed a by-law at Wednesday’s special meeting, to adopt the Asset Management Plan as previously presented to council by Public Sector Digest. That by-law was also carried without discussion as all of council felt they had had sufficient discussion at other meetings. The by-law also provided that the plan be published on the Town’s website.

The Town of Bancroft will be doing some temporary hiring. A by-law allowing the town’s CAO to enter into some temporary contracts was passed yesterday at the special meeting of Town Council. There are some vacancies within the finance and building departments that apparently need to be filled. The Human Resources department had recommended the hiring.

In an aside, council asked the C.A.O. about the progress of repairs to the Bridge Street Bridge. C.A.O. Hazel Lambe said that a meeting was scheduled for today (Wednesday) among the town’s engineering consultant, the Public Works department and the contractor to review the progress. C.A.O. Lambe said it is her understanding that the work is on schedule and that paving is expected to start on Friday of this week.
