A man has drowned in Rice Lake. Peterborough County OPP, along with the OPP Helicopter and the Underwater Search and Rescue Unit were called to the scene Sunday morning and recovered a man’s body. Witnesses say that they saw a man in distress about 200 metres from shore, but were unable to successfully rescue the man. The deceased has been identified as 60 year-old Thomas Gangloff of Buffalo, New York. Police say he was not wearing a lifejacket at the time of his death.
