Local MPP concerned proposed minimum wage increases will hurt small businesses

The Prince Edward-Hastings MPP thinks the province wants to move too quickly on proposed increases to minimum wage.

The province has announced it wants to raise minimum wage to $14 an hour by 2018, and to $15 by 2019. MPP Todd Smith says the timeline the province has set out is just too fast for small businesses to handle.

Smith says he supports a living wage, but is also concerned the proposed increase to minimum wage within the next 18 months will cost people their jobs.

Smith says those currently making $15 an hour might also expect similar increases to their pay cheques, which could take another toll on small business owners.
