Hastings Highlands to have OMB hearing about changes to municipal elections

Some Hastings Highlands residents have appealed a decision to change the municipality’s elections to the Ontario Municipal Board.
These residents have appealed on the grounds that a recent shift towards municipality-wide elections will not provide enough representation for all people in Hastings Highlands.
CAO Pat Pilgrim says an OMB hearing on the issue will be held in the fall, at the municipality’s expense.
If the OMB does not reach a decision before 2018, Hastings Highlands will have to stick with its ward system during next year’s municipal election.
