Throughout the August long weekend, drivers are being reminded to move over for emergency vehicles.
Bancroft OPP will be taking part in a provincial campaign targeting those who do not slow down when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle with its lights flashing. If you’re on a multi-lane highway, you have to move over to give emergency vehicles space.
Fines for disobeying the law can be up to $2,000 for a first offense, along with demerit points, which can increase to possible jail time or a drivers licence suspension if you do it again.
The law applies to police officers, paramedics, firefighters, and tow truck drivers.
