Local fire department reminds you to be safe when using fireworks

Heading into the August long weekend, the North Hastings Fire Service is reminding you that fireworks are not toys.

Fire Prevention Officer Matt Musclow says there are steps you can take to keep yourself and your family safe when using fireworks.

Musclow is also reminding everyone that flying lanterns should not be used under any circumstances as they can drop onto fields, trees, or power lines before the fire is out, which can be a risk to your safety and damage property. The sale and use of flying lanterns is banned in Hastings Highlands, and disobeying the bylaw can result in fines up to $2,000 and the cost of the fire department’s services.
