Christmas tree in Nathan Phillips Square comes from Bancroft

The city of Toronto is getting into the Christmas spirit thanks to Bancroft.

A 60-foot Christmas tree from Bancroft was put up in Nathan Phillips Square on Monday. After the tree takes a few days to settle, four people using large machinery will decorate it over the course of two weeks. It will be on display outside Toronto’s City Hall throughout the holiday season, before being recycled.

A Toronto Communications & Marketing Consultant says the Christmas tree in Nathan Phillips Square is a tradition that was started when the New City Hall officially opened its doors 51 years ago. It costs the city $16,000 to buy the tree, have it delivered, installed, decorated, and removed.
