Police want you to protect your home while you’re away

You might be planning a winter vacation, but it’s important to prevent break-ins and thefts from your home while you’re away.

That’s according to the Bancroft OPP. Constable Philippe Regamey says you can take steps to prepare your home to deter would-be thieves while you are away, whether it’s for a few weeks or one night.

Regamey says it’s also important to protect your car while you’re away. Make sure to lock your doors, park in a well-lit area, hide any valuables, and never leave your keys inside your vehicle.

Police also recommend letting a friend or neighbour you trust know that you’ll be away. Tell them where you’re going, how to reach you, how long you’ll be gone, and if anyone else will be at your home.

Regamey says, if you’re the person responsible for someone else’s home while they’re away, it’s important to check on it.
