Bancroft residents may be in store for another water and waste water rate increase in the New Year.
This comes after these rates went up 53 per cent at the beginning of the year. Mayor Paul Jenkins says the town’s consultant recommended at that time that rates be raised by five per cent annually following the move.
Jenkins says the town will look at information about whether or not it has to raise the rates before any final decisions are made.
Council voted in favour of the rate increase at the beginning of the year because the town is faced with a $2-million water and sewer deficit. Jenkins says another option the town can consider is extending how long it takes to repay the deficit.
Bancroft’s Water and Waste Water Committee will look into whether or not rates have to be increased during its meeting in January.
