Hastings County Council approves official plan

Hastings County is one step closer to finalizing its official plan.

On Tuesday, County Council voted in favour of approving the plan, meant to guide growth and help shape the future of local municipalities. The plan has been 12 years in the making, and includes forecasted population and job growth in the county over the next couple decades.

Bancroft Mayor Paul Jenkins says he is pleased with the plan, which will give the town a lot more flexibility in the future development of its downtown core.

Meanwhile, Hastings Highlands Mayor Vivian Bloom says county council feels it has done the best it can for the future of all 14 member municipalities. Bloom says Hastings Highlands is well-set for the future thanks to the official plan.

The plan still needs approval from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. Municipalities will also have to amend bylaws to make sure they are in-line with the plan.
