Daytime burning restrictions to start April 1st

Daytime burning restrictions will come into effect in communities across North Hastings this weekend.

Fire Prevention Officer Matt Musclow says you will not be allowed to burn between 7:00am and 7:00pm starting on Sunday. Musclow says these restrictions come into effect every year to prevent grass fires in the area, which can easily spread.

Daytime burning restrictions come into effect on Sunday for communities in North Hastings, but also those across Haliburton County. They will remain in effect until October 31st.

Musclow says it’s important to keep up-to-date with burning restrictions as we head into warmer months.

There were no complete fire bans last year in North Hastings, and Musclow hopes that will continue this year.

He is also reminding everyone to be careful when getting rid of ashes because they can hold sparks for a few days which can cause a fire. Musclow says it’s important to put your ashes in a steel container with a lid, and let them cool for a few days, before dumping them and dousing them with water or snow.
