County taxes to go up 1.8 per cent

Hastings County residents will see their taxes go up by 1.8 per cent this year.

Council approved the 2018 county budget earlier today. Warden Rodney Cooney says this means taxes on properties assessed at $175,000 will go up by just over $5 a year.

Cooney says he is happy that staff has managed to keep the tax increase as low as possible because it didn’t look like that would be the case earlier this year.

Cooney says he is thrilled that services weren’t cut in the process. He says the county’s budget will also continue funding projects in North Hastings.

Cooney says the county’s 14 member municipalities will contribute $14-million to the over $143-million balanced budget.
